Obesity has grown to epidemic proportions. In the United States alone, 42% of adults are obese and research shows that over half of the world’s population will be obese or overweight in the next 12 years.
Being overweight increases your risk of developing weight-related diseases and health complications. Individuals with excess body weight are more likely to experience high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and are at increased risk for stroke, heart attack and various forms of cancer. Carrying an unhealthy weight requires treatment.
Southwoods Health has created a comprehensive program to help combat obesity through medical and surgical weight loss solutions. Since each patient has a unique set of circumstances, our team at the Center for Comprehensive Weight Management & Bariatric Surgery focuses on delivering personalized care using a multidisciplinary approach and is dedicated to providing patients a path to a healthier future.

The Center for Comprehensive Weight Management & Bariatric Surgery is accredited under the Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). This recognition means Southwoods offer the safest, highest-quality care possible.
Research shows accredited centers experience lower complications and better outcomes than that of non-accredited facilities. As an MBSAQIP-accredited hospital, Southwoods also becomes an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. Being a Surgical Quality Partner signifies our dedication to consistently improving procedures and approaches, while maintaining a critical eye on processes at every step.

The program starts with an evaluation of each patient’s specific medical problems, disease processes and personal goals. Candidacy for the program is determined by Body Mass Index (BMI). Once a baseline is established, behavioral changes, lifestyle changes, diet and nutritional education are discussed.
BMI is a metric used by physicians to gauge a patient’s overall health based on a scale from underweight, healthy weight, overweight and obesity. It’s a calculated measure of weight relative to height. Check your BMI by utilizing the calculator link below.
