WKBN – Southwoods Imaging Facility Celebrates Grand Opening

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – A new imaging facility officially opened it’s doors to patients in the Valley.

The ribbon was cut, and after two and a half years of planning, Southwoods Imaging is now officially open to better serve the needs of their patients.

“It is extremely exciting, in that there’s so much planning and so much thought from the original thought on why we needed this and giving this gem to the community to allow people to have scans and to get information quicker which was the driving force behind this,” said Ed Muransky, CEO of Southwoods’ Surgical Hospital.

Southwoods Imaging employees said that with it’s convenient location on Market Street in Boardman, it’s bringing state of the art diagnostic technologies which they indicate is crucial for the overall care of the patient. This includes nine different imaging services including digital mammography and the area’s only fixed-location PET/CT that can find smaller tumors and cancers.

Radiology Director Lisa DeJacimo ssid their goal is to get faster test results.

“You get a diagnosis faster, if you can get a diagnosis within one or two days of finding an abnormality you can get to treatment faster,” said DeJacimo.

“I think that’s very important, you know, I think we have anything wrong we want to know right away and get started,” added visitor Sue Rawlings.

Chief Nursing Officer Angela Kerns said she thinks the facility is a necessity.

“We felt that the Valley deserved a place to go where they could have expedited care and really have all the tests in one place,” said Kerns.

The building is also designed with patient comfort in mind, including some private waiting areas and heated robes.
