Southwoods Health Celebrates 30 Years of Providing Patient-Centered Care

Boardman, Ohio (June 4, 2026) — Southwoods Health is celebrating three decades of delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to the Mahoning Valley. On June 10, 1996, The Surgery Center at Southwoods opened its doors with a clear vision: healthcare should be accessible, efficient, compassionate and centered on the patient experience.

According to Ed Muransky, Chief Executive Officer of Southwoods Health, that vision helped reshape how care is delivered across the region.

“We gave residents more options for reliable, high-quality care closer to home,” explained Muransky. “From the beginning, we challenged the idea that patients needed to travel far to receive advanced services. Instead, we focused on bringing that level of care directly into our community—combining strong clinical outcomes with compassion, convenience and a commitment to doing what’s right for patients.”

What started as an outpatient surgery center has grown into a fully integrated healthcare system designed to support patients at every stage of their healthcare journey. Today, Southwoods includes a network of over 300 providers and offers the area’s premier surgical hospital, advanced diagnostic imaging, physical therapy and rehabilitation, home health, express care and sleep medicine services.

Muransky said the organization’s growth has been driven by its people and its long-term commitment to the community.

“Southwoods is powered by more than 1,500 dedicated team members who bring skill, compassion and purpose to their work every day,” he said. “Their commitment is the driving force behind our ability to deliver consistent, patient-centered care across the entire system. Over the past 30 years, we’ve built a strong foundation by expanding services, investing in advanced technology and growing alongside the communities we serve. That commitment guides us as we look to the future—and we will continue to remember: it’s not just about the treatment, but how you’re treated.”
